Ta-Nia’s “Mundane Afrofuturism” Teach-In at Radical Hood Library

Educator

As an educator, Nia is passionate about supporting emerging artists (at any age and stage) with lessons learned from their experiences on stage, on sets, and in their own neighborhood. Speaking and workshop/course topics include:

  • Devising and collaborating theater-making
  • Self-generating work as an emerging multi-hyphenate filmmaker in today’s industry
  • Developing community-engaged artistic practices
  • And more!

From 2019 to 2021, Nia co-facilitated the Nine Muses Lab at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. They helped develop the curriculum for this college-level filmmaking course which is designed to nurture the skills of a multi-hyphenate storyteller and entertainment entrepreneur in today’s industry. Throughout the program, Nia also guided students through the development and creation of a five-minute short film at festival and industry standards.

Outside of the Nine Muses Lab, Nia has also supported Nine Muses founder Bryce Dallas Howard across programming with The Academy Gold Mentorship, TED Summer School, Anarchists United, and in 2021, Nia joined Howard and Rachel Friedman in the SXSW EDU panel “Creating Curricular Partnerships: Nine Muses Lab.”

And within their creative partnership, Talia and Nia (“Ta-Nia”) also offer interactive rituals, workshops, teach-ins, and lectures that harness the technologies of Mundane Afrofuturism to imagine alternative modes of being, create liberatory Blk spaces, and connect communities with radical ideas and one another. Recent Workshops include:

      • “Staging the Impossible” (Why Not Theatre, 2026)
      • “Mundane Afrofuturism” (Radical Hood Library, 2024)
      • “Tactics of Theatrical Ritual” (Aarhaus University, 2023 / Theatertreffen Stückemarkt, 2021)
